Hanam Pig House Ansan Seonbu is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Seonbu-dong where the staff grills the meat for you. Since there was little need to keep turning the meat or checking how well it was cooked, it was easier to focus on the meal.

The restaurant uses certified Korean pork. The meat is first seared over charcoal at more than 500°C, then finished at the table by the staff.

Difference between Set Platter 1 and Set Platter 2

There are two Set Platter options. The cuts are different, so you can choose according to the types of pork you prefer.

MenuIncludes
Set Platter 1Pork belly, pork neck, rib meat
Set Platter 2Pork belly, pork neck, gabrisal

During the visit, we ordered Set Platter 2 and beef brisket doenjang stew.

Alternating the fattier pork belly with pork neck and gabrisal gave the meal more variety than ordering just one cut.

If several people are dining together, starting with a mixed platter can also make choosing the menu easier.

How was the certified Korean pork?

Hanam Pig House uses certified domestic Korean pork. When we tried it, there was no noticeable unpleasant pork smell, and the meat retained a good amount of juiciness.

The cuts were not overly thin or dry, and the overall texture was tender.

Pre-grilled over 500°C charcoal, then grilled by staff

The meat is pre-grilled over charcoal at more than 500°C before it reaches the table.

Pork belly being pre-grilled

Instead of grilling raw meat from the beginning at the table, the staff finishes the pre-grilled cuts until they are ready to eat.

You do not need to keep turning the meat yourself, which can be convenient for company dinners or family meals where you want to focus on conversation.

The most convenient part was not having to grill it ourselves

The staff cooked the pork belly, pork neck and gabrisal to a suitable doneness for each cut.

There was no need to keep checking whether the meat was done. Eating each cut as it was served made the meal feel more relaxed than at a typical self-grill BBQ restaurant.

This style can be especially useful if you find grilling meat troublesome or if you are dining with a larger group.

You can also see the staff grilling the platter in the Hanam Pig House Ansan Seonbu mixed platter video.

Pork belly, pork neck and gabrisal: how do they differ?

Of the three cuts, I reached for the pork belly most often. The outside was nicely browned while the inside still retained its juices.

The pork belly worked well with salt or the accompanying sides, and it was also enjoyable on its own.

The pork neck was not overly dry, while the gabrisal had a pleasantly chewy texture.

The different textures made it enjoyable to alternate between the three cuts, which was one of the advantages of Set Platter 2.

Beef brisket doenjang stew and a useful ordering tip

We also ordered beef brisket doenjang stew with the meat. The brisket gave it a stronger meaty flavor than a basic doenjang stew, and it paired well with rice.

One downside during this visit was that the overall serving speed was a little slow.

We ordered the stew when about half the meat was still left, but it arrived only after we had finished all the meat and waited for some time.

If you want to eat the side dishes together with the meat, it is better to order them a little earlier.

Is it a good choice for company dinners or family meals?

Because the staff grills the meat, one person does not have to keep managing the grill throughout the meal.

This can be particularly useful for groups that want to talk and eat comfortably without constantly watching the grill.
