I checked in advance before going and was able to eat without a long wait.

An interior with a strong clay and wood atmosphere
As its name suggests, Songho Hwangto Maeul has a clear earthen-clay look from the outside. It feels more traditional and rustic than a newly opened modern restaurant.
The atmosphere also works well for family meals or a visit with parents.

Parking spaces are available directly in front of the restaurant. For a family-oriented meal such as baeksuk, it is useful to check parking arrangements before you go.
You need to remove your shoes when entering
Inside, you remove your shoes and change into the slippers provided. Shoes are not worn inside, so this is useful to know before your first visit.

The interior has a strong clay-and-wood look and feels warm overall.

The tables were spaced fairly comfortably, and there were areas suitable for groups. It is also worth considering if you are looking for baeksuk in Idong, Ansan for a family meal or a visit with parents.
Side dishes served while waiting for the neungi baeksuk
The basic side dishes arrived before the baeksuk. They were generally clean-tasting and easy to pair with the chicken.

One of the most memorable dishes was the warm vegetable pancake. It was especially good with a piece of pickled vegetable on top while waiting for the main dish.

What the half-portion neungi mushroom baeksuk was like
I ordered the half-portion of neungi mushroom baeksuk. I initially wondered whether a half portion would feel small, but the pot looked more filling than expected when it arrived.

The baeksuk arrived bubbling in the pot. Rather than a strong medicinal-herb aroma, it had a gentler fragrance from the neungi mushrooms.
The flavor and aroma of the broth were not overpowering, so I kept going back for more throughout the meal.

The chicken was thoroughly cooked and tender
The chicken had been cooked long enough that the meat came apart easily when lifted with tongs. The mild chicken also paired well with a little salt and the neungi mushrooms.

The texture was closer to soft and tender than chewy or firm. This was one of the parts I liked most when eating the hot baeksuk.
The neungi mushroom broth stood out most
For me, the broth was the most memorable part of the neungi mushroom baeksuk at Songho Hwangto Maeul. It had depth without feeling overly oily or heavy.

The mushroom aroma blended naturally into the broth. It was the kind of warm soup that felt especially fitting on a chilly day.
If you are looking for Ansan baeksuk with hot broth and tender chicken, the broth is one of the main points to pay attention to here.
Choose between sticky rice and kalguksu noodles
After eating most of the baeksuk, you could choose either kalguksu noodles or sticky rice. I chose the sticky rice.

I added the sticky rice to the remaining broth and let it cook a little longer until the liquid reduced.
Cooking it down slowly lets the rice absorb more of the broth.
The sticky rice absorbed the remaining chicken and mushroom flavors, turning the broth into a savory and filling porridge.

I was already fairly full after the baeksuk, but I still kept eating the porridge. The meal flowed naturally from the main chicken dish to the final rice course.
